In a world of misunderstanding, knowing is the worst. Emilie Gaschler is a normal girl in a world of magic: one with magic-powered technology and regular attacks from wild monsters. She’s just a normal schoolgirl attending an average middle school, with little about her to stand out in any way. That is, until she learns how things really are. Along with the knowledge of what she is, Emilie is given the option of the easy road to throw away her upbringing and join those who came before—but the road she takes is much more difficult, and much more deadly.

Glossary
As understood by most of the world at the start of the tale
Aspect
The type of magic used by monsters and Dynamic humans.
Beast
A term that refers to all non-sapient species (animals and most monsters).
Creature
A term that refers to all sapient species (humans and some monsters).
Dynamic
Living things that can use Aspect magic through wands or similar devices. These can affect the duration of magic used on them, in addition to resisting the spells altogether.
Entropy
Both the thermodynamic concept of waste heat and the source of magic as the opposite of energy.
Mage
A Dynamic person who gains Aspect spells of their own over time.
Monster
Living things permanently imbued with Aspect magic. This status is inherited by their offspring. While monsters can be sourced from any physical thing, only those made from humans can be Dynamic.
Soul
The type of magic used by a select few creatures. Essentially a miracle. This term also refers to one differentiation between beasts and creatures, in that creatures have a soul. (Religiously, this means that sapient monsters are included when ancient texts refer to “humans.”)
Static
Living things that cannot use magic-enabled objects, including both wands and technology. These cannot affect the duration of magic used against them, though they can resist it a little.
Territory
The likely home of a true dragon. These areas are those most commonly impacted by Dragons.
True Dragon
Extraordinarily large monsters of an unknown origin, also called simply “Dragons.” These monsters are stronger than any other and take entire teams to challenge.
Wizard
A Dynamic person who can learn from others or create their own Aspect spells.
